I’m Sil. Some things about me, in no particular order:
- I’m a software engineer by trade, with over a decade of experience.
- I work AI-native and love it; agents are an extension of my cognition, handling the nitty-gritty so I can focus on the truly creative parts of software engineering.
- I love learning and thinking, making new connections, discovering how elements in complex systems influence each other.
- Sometimes I love thinking a little too much — that’s why I meditate.
- I’m fascinated by a lot of things — interests that shift from year to year, month to month, even day to day — but the general areas are: psychology, neuroscience, herbalism, ecology, nature, holistic health, medicine. I’m fascinated by nature in its broadest sense, with all its complexities and intricacies.
- I started writing a fantasy novel (and planning a trilogy) when I was 13. I never finished, let alone published it, but it taught me a lot about writing.
- I’ve always loved singing.
- I started writing songs and poems in my early teens.
- When I was 20, I started studying pop/jazz music at a local music academy. My chosen instrument was, of course, voice.
- I was the lead singer of a metal band in my early twenties, and later the vocalist of a jazz ensemble.
- I’m a certified yoga teacher (hatha/vinyasa, yin, restorative and TCTSY), but discovered that I don’t enjoy teaching yoga at all. I do still practice yoga nidra regularly, and have a fascination with anatomy that I apply to my own movement routine.
- I’m studying to become a ‘kruidenvrouw’ (herb woman, herbalist), a traditional vocation that is deeply connected to nature, traditional medicine, and folk magic.
- I’m Flemish, born and raised in the lovely city of Mechelen. I still live there with my husband, but we also have a deep connection with his homecountry Norway and try to spend time there each year as well.
